About SAJ:
SAJ is the founding congregation of the Reconstructionist movement and a vibrant community on the Upper West Side of New York City. Ever since SAJ introduced America’s first Bat Mitzvah in 1922, it has been reconstructing Judaism, questioning tradition, and expanding its boundaries to ensure that Torah remains relevant, engaging, and welcoming to all. Our 260+ diverse households seek various entry points into Jewish life, including learning, social justice, spiritual exploration, and community engagement. We are a Jewish home where everyone’s voice is valued and heard.

Position Description:

SAJ is hiring for a temporary part-time, administrative assistant position. This critical member of the team will be responsible for creating a welcoming environment while performing administrative duties to allow SAJ to remain the vibrant, responsive and responsible community we are.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative

  • Manage administrative needs and support the executive team
  • Manage membership database (Shulcloud), ensuring the accuracy and validity of information
  • Provide logistical support for SAJ’s programming
  • Generate reports for weekly Shabbat preparations and photocopy as necessary
  • Place food orders for Shabbat and special programs
  • Other tasks as needed

Communications

  • Create weekly Shabbat Poster with programs and locations in the building and any other special signage
  • Generate and send Yartzeit Reminder Letters
  • Assist in the preparation of the weekly SAJ newsletter


Qualifications

  • Experience supporting senior leaders with projects, schedules, and other administrative needs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with experience producing accurate and professional communications, ideally adept across multiple communication platforms
  • Expertise with core computer applications such as Microsoft Office & Google Drive and experience learning/developing proficiency in new, cloud-based software (bonus points for experience with any/all of Zoom, ShulCloud, WordPress, and Canva)
  • Ability to quickly learn synagogue database/CRM system, Shulcloud 
  • Be a collaborative team player
  • Experience handling/protecting sensitive and private data
  • Ability to uphold and maintain confidentiality


Compensation and Benefits:

  • $20-$25 per hour based on experience
  • Hours: 11 AM-4 PM, Tuesday and Friday 
  • Ideal start date is no later than February 2, 2026
