Prof. Derek Penslar is the William Lee Frost Professor of Modern Jewish History at Harvard. He approaches modern Jewish history from a transnational and global perspective. He is particularly interested in the relationship between modern Israel and diaspora Jewish societies, global nationalist movements, European colonialism, and post-colonial states. He co-edits The Journal of Israeli History with Anita Shapira and serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Jewish Studies, Jewish Social Studies, and Israel Studies. He is the author of many books including his most recent, Zionism: An Emotional State. Penslar also served as the Chair for Harvard’s Combating Anti-Semitism Task Force.
