Honorable Mr. Morgenthau Film Screening

Join Emmy Award-winning SAJer Hilan Warshaw for a screening of his film, Honorable Mr. Morgenthau. Driven by politics and blatant anti-Semitism, the U.S. government denied refuge to millions of Jews throughout WWII. Knowing FDR’s distaste for “sob stuff” about refugees, Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau, Jr.—the only Jewish Cabinet member—kept silent. Ultimately, what he witnessed spurred him to boldly confront the administration, leading to the creation of the War Refugee Board and saving up to 200,000 Jews. Discussion and Q&A to follow.
