“Let There Be Light”: A spectacular array of 139 Hanukkah lamps is among the highlights of the recently renovated, reimagined Jewish culture and history galleries of New York’s Jewish Museum. This is the first reimagining of those galleries (two full floors of the museum) in thirty years, a seeming eon ago in terms of changed/still changing attitudes and opinions about Jewish identity, Judaism, Israel, and just about everything else. Can this redo also help refresh and re-introduce viewers to the history of the Jews, and also perhaps contribute to the repair or heal the wounds of Oct 7, 2023?
Diane Cole will walk us through this ambitious and impressive “reconstruction” of the Jewish Museum.
