Interventions to Reduce Mental Health Stigma

The Mental Health and Resiliency Task Force at SAJ is very pleased to host an exciting talk on reducing mental health-related stigma by Dr. Doron Amsalem on Saturday April 26 from 1-2pm in the Sanctuary after Kiddush. Dr. Amsalem is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia Psychiatry and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. His research focuses on reducing mental health stigma, particularly in psychosis and depression among young adults and adolescents. Dr. Amsalem explores the use of brief, social contact-based videos as a tool to decrease stigma and encourage treatment engagement among youth. These videos feature personal testimonials from individuals with lived experience, fostering identification and emotional connection to promote understanding and support. His work aims to develop and implement these interventions to help at-risk youth access treatment earlier, ultimately improving mental health outcomes within communities. In this talk to SAJ, he will describe his work, and share some of the videos he has developed with us. All are welcome.
