Greening SAJ
Jewish tradition teaches us not to waste (ba’al taskhit), and to be mindful of how we give our environment the needed rest to sustain life (shemita). For the last several years, SAJ has put special effort into greening our building and educating our community about climate change and conservation. We established composting for all SAJ events and for our building renters. Every Tu Bishvat (the holiday of the trees), SAJ hosts a Greening Shabbat which features special teachings or guest lecturers on Jewish or religious environmental ethics, a locally-sourced Kiddush lunch, and special programming for our youngest community members.
