SAJ members at a fundraiser for WSCAH (Westside Campaign Against Hunger)
Hunger & Food Insecurity
SAJ works actively with Westside Campaign Against Hunger (“WSCAH”). SAJ members were among the organization’s founders, current SAJ members serve on the WSCAH Board, run significant programs, and volunteer. WSCAH changes our perception of hungry people by working in partnership with them, providing food with dignity, and empowering customers to find solutions.
Throughout the year, SAJ collects coats, toys, and other necessities for WSCAH customers. In addition, our entire community –especially our Makom students– participate in the Thousand Turkey Challenge. As WSCAH also treats the whole person, SAJ members assist with voter registration drives and volunteer work aimed at helping customers access government services.
SAJ also raises significant funds for the Food Bank of New York during our Yom Kippur Appeal.
