Muriel Rukeyser / Käthe Kollwitz: The Poet as Activist, Presented by David Katz

What would happen if one woman told the truth about/her life?” the poet Muriel Rukeyser asks in her poem “Käthe Kollwitz.” “The world would split open[.]” In an in-depth discussion of Rukeyser’s powerful poem and the work of Kollwitz, an artist whose searing work split open the themes of labor, war, and the lives of women for all to see, poet and long-time SAJ member David Katz will explore the relationships among social and political advocacy, poetry, and art.
