This Week’s Tish:

Queer Approaches to Talmud Study

With Rabbinic Intern Noah Rubin-Blose. Reading ancient Jewish texts with a queer framework (sometimes called “queering” the texts) is a process created by LGBTQ people that anyone can paritciapte in and contribute to, which helps us illuminate how topics like power, gender, relationships, justice, and who is considered “normal” show up in our texts. We will explore how and why we might read our texts with a queer lens, and why the Talmud is an especially fruitful place for these queer readings. This tish will introduce the framework that will guide a 3 part class Noah will teach on Queer Talmud in February. In addition to studying Talmud at RRC, Noah is a fellow with SVARA: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva.
