Rise Up/Bat Mitzvah at 100: National Shabbat | The Shul Where it Happened
March 19, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Join SAJ to for Rise Up/Bat Mitzvah National Shabbat in “the shul where it happened.” SAJ is the initiator and co-organizer of the National program in which thousands across the country will celebrate!
At SAJ’s celebration, we will honor female and feminist trailblazers in our congregation, in the Reconstructionist movement, and the broader Jewish community through special aliyot and liturgy written by Rabbi Lauren for the National Shabbat. Cantor Lisa and Rabbi Lauren will be joined by Glenn Grossman (drums) and Shy Kedmi (keyboard) and through the service, we will feature music written by female or non-biary composers and our torah reading will be intergenerational and female/non-binary.
Our guest darshan (teacher) will be Rabbi Sandy Sasso, pioneering feminist rabbi, author, and teacher. Rabbi Sasso will read to Makom students from her children’s book Judy Led the Way a book about the first Bat Mitzvah during their Yom Iyyun (day of learning) at 10am and Rabbi Sasso join the sanctuary at 11:15am for a guest teaching on Judith, Bat Mitzvah, and the history and impact of women’s participation in Judaism.
Preceded by a special tish in honor of Rise Up/Bat Mitzvah at 100.
