SAJ Human Rights Shabbat: 
Abortion Access & Reproductive Justice in a Post Roe World with Chelsea Williams-Diggs of the New York Abortion Access Fund

For this year’s Human Rights Shabbat, Chelsea Williams-Diggs, the Interim Executive Director of the New York Abortion Access Fund (NYAAF), will speak to the congregation about abortion access and reproductive justice in a post Roe world. NYAAF is an organization dedicated to supporting anyone living in or traveling to New York who needs help paying for an abortion.

Chelsea will be in conversation with Rabbi Lauren, looking at the landscape of abortion care in New York state after Dobbs and what the NYAAF is seeing in terms of increased demand. She will also talk about the intersection of reproductive justice with immigration and criminal justice. In addition to speaking during services, Chelsea will stick around during and after the lunch if anyone wants to continue the conversation and/or learn more about the NYAAF.

Chelsea has extensive experience in movement building, including in the areas of criminal legal and immigration system reform, reproductive justice, global gender policy, and youth mobilization. Her passion for social justice is rooted in lived experience and a commitment to community care. She has volunteered as a clinic escort, is a trained abortion doula, and designed and taught a course on reproductive justice. Chelsea first joined NYAAF as a volunteer intake case manager in 2019 and subsequently joined the board of directors in 2020.
