Saturday April 23 during services, 11:10 AM EST
Multi-Access in Person and on Zoom

Rabbi Shalom will speak about the continuing legacy of the SAJ in Israel. Sixty years ago, Rabbi Jack Cohen, a devoted student of Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan, moved to Israel and founded an independent congregation in Jerusalem dedicated to spreading Kaplan’s message of creative, vibrant and moral Judaism. Kehillat Mevakshei Derech was founded in 1962 and has served Israeli families for the past six decades, providing an egalitarian, democratic alternative to the state sponsored Orthodox monopoly in Israel. Rabbi Shalom will speak about some of the challenges and tensions facing progressive Judaism in Israel and the ways in which Kehillat Mevakshei Derech proudly brings SAJ and Reconstructing Judaism’s message to Israeli society.
Rabbi Haim Shalom is the Rabbi of Kehillat Mevakshei Derech, the Kaplanian Progressive Synagogue of Israel. Formerly from the UK, he lives in Yerushalayim with his partner Deborah and their 3 children.
