The new Israeli Reform Siddur “Tefilat Ha’Adam” – more traditional and more radical, presented by Daniel Chinn and Rabbi Levi Weiman Kelman (Multi-access Tish)
March 25 @ 9:00 am - 9:50 am EDT
The new Israeli Reform Siddur “Tefilat Ha”Adam” – more traditional and more radical, presented by Daniel Chinn and Rabbi Levi Weiman Kelman, founder and Rabbi Emeritus of Kol Haneshama.
The Israeli Reform Movement recently published its new Siddur. The Siddur reflects the changes in Israeli Reform liturgy and thought over the last 40 years and reflects exciting innovations, including a wealth of modern Hebrew poetry and song alongside older Jewish voices from across the Jewish world absent in the past, while at the same time rediscovering parts of the liturgy which were abandoned by earlier generations. In addition, a Bilingual Hebrew-English Siddur was published with the Shabbat services only as a way of allowing non-native Hebrew speakers to access the richness of the new Siddur.
Rabbi Levi Weiman-Kelman, Founder and Rabbi Emeritus of Kol Haneshama congregation in Jerusalem was one of the editors of the Bilingual Edition of Tefilat Ha’Adam. Rabbi Levi and Daniel Chinn, one of the laypeople on the advisory committee for both the original Hebrew edition and the bilingual edition, will provide some background to the publication of Tefilat Ha’Adam and discuss a few of the key elements of the new Siddur as well as some of the challenges of creating a bilingual version of what is a Siddur deeply rooted in Israeli culture.
