Beyond Inclusion: Occupational Justice, presented by Diane Heimer (Multi-access Tish)
April 15 @ 9:00 am - 9:50 am EDT

Beyond Inclusion: Occupational Justice, presented by Diane Heimer.
Occupational Justice is not about employment, although employment can be about occupational justice. As an occupational therapist, Diane’s training is rooted in the understanding that engagement in the meaningful and necessary occupations of daily life is life-affirming and that lack of engagement is fundamentally detrimental to mental and physical health. Occupational Justice is an OT practice framework that is based on the social model of disability, and focuses on environmental, procedural, and institutional barriers to full participation, rather than on the rehabilitation of the individual to fit existing structures. We will explore a variety of texts and teachings about the relationship between a disabled person and the Jewish community and discuss these through the lens of Occupational Justice.
