Tisha B’av Service (In person and on Zoom)

August 6 @ 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm EDT

In person and on Zoom (Zoom ID: 793-399-790 Password 183654)

For the most reflective and saddest night of the Jewish year, SAJ will join with three other Reconstructionist communities – Adat Shalom in Bethesda, Kehillath Shalom on Long Island, and Or Haneshamah in Ottawa — to be moved by the mournful chanting of Lamentations, and to reflect together on the themes of Suffering and Solidarity.

Those who wish to attend in person will gather (masked please) in the sanctuary by 8:15pm. This solemn ritual, traditionally held by candlelight and seated (as feasible) on the ground, will be accessible to all on Zoom starting at 8:30pm, when our four kehillot will join together. Various liturgies, perspectives, teachings, and verses of Eicha text will be led from all four communities.

You can view and participate either in person or remotely on Zoom. Join us to sing, study, reflect, hear the traditional Lamentations text, and collectively begin the journey of rebuilding and renewal that leads to the doorway of the New Year.
