Rabbi Adam Graubart
Adam Graubart first wanted to serve as a rabbi at the age of 8. At the time, he loved to teach and write. When his father joked, “Rabbis teach and write all the time. Maybe you should do that,” it sparked inspiration! Over the years, Adam also grew passionate about the ways rabbis repair the world on the individual and communal levels. Recognizing that the wonders and wisdom of the tradition require an educational foundation, he seeks to guide children and their families to critically engage with the Jewish past, present, and future. In his role at SAJ, he hopes to help folks move from curiosity and confusion to comprehension to creative contribution.
In May 2025, Adam received his Master of Arts in Hebrew Literature and Rabbinic Ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. As a rabbinical student, Adam interned as a Cooperberg-Rittmaster Rabbinical Intern at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah and served as the Student Rabbi for Beth Am: The People’s Temple. For his thesis, Adam crafted 6 original short stories about how Jewish people relate to one another across differences. Prior to seminary, Adam earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services and Social Justice with minors in Judaic Studies and Hebrew from George Washington University. During undergraduate, he conducted qualitative research about how leaders at D.C. synagogues organize around the value of justice.
Adam has worked with families and children in many different settings. While at GW, he served as a JumpStart Corps Member, supporting pre-school students in developing English language and literacy. He has also taught a variety of grades at Temple Micah in D.C. and at Brooklyn Heights Synagogue and Congregation Beth Elohim in New York. Finally, Adam worked with kids and teens at a summer camp run by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles.
Adam is a proud member of T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights and Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ). He is also an alum of the Interfaith Civic Leadership Academy overseen by the Interfaith Center of New York and the Crown Heights Leadership Cohort. In his free time, Adam enjoys cooking, running, reading, attending theater, following Yankees baseball, traveling, and exploring new museums and restaurants.
